As you might know, I love to sew. As much as I love knitting, I enjoy sewing three times as much… and recently I have been squeezing as much of it in as I can and I have been using you guys to get me more on the machine than ever. Between Quilting Club and our Designer Pattern 2-night sewing projects (Schoolhouse Tunic, Anna Tunic, Surf Halter)  I have been having so much fun! All of this creative fabric inspiration got me thinking about some small, but significant skills, we all should work on developing. For that I put together a few one-hour workshops for Sewing Skills utilizing one of the newest great reference tool for sewers of all levels, The Sewing Bible by Ruth Singer. I think every sewer should have that one great book that will help you work through a sewing issue or help you refine your skills. I hope will join me or Cassidy for one of the upcoming workshops using The Sewing Bible. With the purchase of the book from Stitch House you will be welcome to join us for one of our workshops and then attend the additional workshops for $10. This is a great deal and you’ll pick up some tricks of the trade to speed up your sewing and give all your projects that finished look.  The first sessions focus on seams and zippers. See dates and times below in class descriptions.
Last weekend Ruffle Scarf workshop was a lot of fun – and now we’re repeating it for you this Saturday, April 14th from 2-4pm. Sit with Valaree and make the newest and coolest neckwear! I get so many compliments on my scarves – get in on the praise and make one for you and a few for your friends! I posted a picture on the Stitch House Facebook site of the one I made for St. Paddy’s Day and a few more I just got off my needles this week  – check them out and let me know what you think!  Yarns are between $9 and $14. Needle size recommended is between U.S. 8 and 13. I hope you can stop by.
Jeanne has been really sad that we don’t have a lot of interest in her Wednesday evening Crochet Workshops. Please come. She so wants to teach you all about her craft.. and crochet is a wonderful addition to knitting and sewing. Imagine the beautiful sundress with a crocheted edge. Or, the cozy knit baby blanket with a decorative crochet border. There is so much for you here at the Stitch House, don’t let the chance to learn crochet to pass you by!
Last week I told you about my boys’ Spring Baseball Program and the help we need in collecting water for them. I hope you can help by making sure these kids get all the hydration they need Opening Day and throughout the season. Bring in a case of water, any brand, to the Stitch House between April 16th and April 22 and get 10% off you total purchase (regularly priced items, please). We realize that the plastic bottles aren’t the environmentally friendly way to go but we will have collection buckets at the park to collect and return all the empties so they can be recycled.
Savin Hill Baseball Opening Day is also the day we also kick off our Stitch House “Al Fresco” Summer 2012. The Savin Hill Baseball League, plays most of their games at Savin Hill beach ball fields (you can see them if your driving North on 93 and by the Dorchester Yacht Club). It’s a great neighborhood tradition and I love that all the boys play. On Saturday, April 28 we kick the season off with a old-time parade up Dorchester Avenue to the park. There we have Opening Day Ceremonies and loads of fun for the kids. Join me, Stitch House staff, and all our friends at the park that day. Find our Flag, bring a blanket or beach chair, and don’t forget your knitting! This is a great way to celebrate local youth, enjoy the season and get some knitting done. Festivities start at 9am and more details will follow.
A few weeks ago I discovered that we have a  World Book Day 2012. It seems like a cool thing to do to encourage reading and literacy. This day is rooted in some deep history and is recognized formally on April 23. We’re going to celebrate at the Stitch House by hosting a book swap table from April 20th to April 29th. We have a group of books to start the swap and the way it works is: you leave a book and take a different book. This is a great way to share a knitting/crochet/sewing/crafting book you have that you would like to gift, but in return you select a different book from the table. Leave a book, take a book! Super easy and a way to refresh your craft book collection. I think this will be fun – come in and try it out.

So that’s it for this week’s email! Check out the class listing attached or join us for one of the classes below!
