It is important to remember that Memorial Day is not just a day to gather around the BBQ and enjoy a day off of work, it is a day to celebrate the lives and commitment of those that protect us now and throughout our history. Although he wasn’t a member of the US Services, my grandfather, Walter Ogrodniczuk, was a proud member of the Polish Army during WW2. He served his country well and his dedication is something I remember this weekend and share with my boys. One of the most cherished pictures of him, the one that sits on Douglas Walter’s bureau, is of him in his uniform, standing brave and tall. I will remember and honor him this weekend. We will visit him, my grandmother, and dad at Cedar Grove Cemetery this weekend (the place my kids affectionately refer to as “Heaven”) when we go to Dorchester’s Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 29. The annual parade takes place at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The parade starts at the McKeon Post at 4 Hill Top Street and ends at Cedar Grove Cemetery via Milton and Adams Streets. I’ll be there – you should come too!
