During a major election year there is always talk about the “October Surprise.” I felt so left out of this so I decided to come up with one for Stitch House. Now that the chill is in the air, we are clearing out of the cottons: from NOW to October 31 all 100% cotton yarns are $5 a ball/skein! Selection includes Ultra Pima, Blue Sky Worsted solid and multi, CEY Sanibel (almost 100% cotton), Katydid, Sprout, Seedling, Jill Eaton Cottontail, Be Sweet T-Shirt, Tahki Ripple, Butterfly Super 10, Rowan Savannah (6% silk) and Revive (36% cotton). And just in case you are worried about being home-bound during the forecasted hurricane, we also have some other new additions to our clearance area.
The Stitch House sewing classes are currently under high demand – and we’re excited about this! In order to fill our demand,we need more instructors! Sewing Instructors need to have garment sewing experience (non-professional is ok!) and feel comfortable teaching non-sewers how to read and use a commercial pattern (Simplicity, McCalls, Butterick, etc), make minor pattern alterations, teach basic sewing machine skills and encourage beginners if they become discouraged. If you are interested, please email me at the shop (reply to this email) and we can discuss this opportunity more.
Sunday, October 28 (3-5pm) we bring back our last Sunday Charity Knitting. This weekend I invite you to come knit or crochet a “Boob Hat”! Materials are $10 (not including needles; bring size 7 or 8’s) and we’ll create these adorable and fun baby hats. I thought this was a fun way to promote Breast Health Awareness. After you make your “Boob Hat” we’re going to bring them to a variety of craft fairs this holiday season and sell them with 100% of the proceeds going to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer efforts. If you are unable to join us Sunday you can check out a sample pattern here or pick up your supplies over the next few weeks at Stitch House. Hats should be done and returned by November 30.
Sunday is also the next meeting time for the Quilt Club. We are getting a lot done on our Trip Around the World quilts and will meet again from 4-6pm this Sunday, October 28. Additional upcoming Quilt Club times are Friday, Nov 2nd, 5-7pm and Sunday, November 4th from 4-6pm, Wednesday, November 14 from 6-8pm.
If you are interested in sewing and want to try one of my favorite patterns join me on Wednesdays, November 7 & 14 from 6-8pm and make the Ginger Skirt from Colette Patterns. I really like this pattern and would love to have you make one with me. This is a perfect project for new sewers or experienced sewers looking to get something done as the holidays approach. This class is a free workshop with purchase of materials (approx. $45). Please call to reserve your spot in this workshop.
With all this sewing talk I almost forgot we also knit and crochet here! Katie is running her Saturday workshops from 3-5pm. This week the topic is Color Knitting/Fair Isle and next week is Intro to Socks. Learn to Crochet with Jeanne on Sunday from 1-3pm. Each class is $20, not including materials.
I hope to see you soon! And, Happy Halloween!
p.s. Charlie, Kayden and Samir are going to be Ninjas and Douglas is going to be a werewolf (the most gross one you can imagine)
