Working on my Coors Cowl… you see how I got the name!
First and most importantly, I wish you all a very happy new year. I hope that 2013 is the best year ever for you and I wish that for me too! So far it has been – Classic Elite Yarns has a great newsletter that often features free patterns. Wednesday they featured one of mine! Many of you have made (or are making) my Coors Cowl. I am so excited that CEY liked it too. Please check out their photography and post your project to the new Coors Cowl Ravelry page.
As I do every year, a new year (even a few days into the year!) gives me a chance to refocus some of our energy at Stitch House and try out some new classes, products and and specials. Last year (isn’t that funny to say!) we offered a few deals including an Intro to Knitting Class through Groupon
and the response was huge, so big we were scheduling people into May for some of our sessions. That wasn’t good so we added four more Knit 101 classes. We have moved most people up, but if we haven’t gotten to you yet, call us! And, if you are hoping to take a Knitting Class you are more than welcome to come in and try us out now! I hope you will.
For those of you that don’t need the basics and want to develop your skills further, try one of Katie’s Saturday afternoon workshops. These are one-time sessions that cover a range of topics. Here’s what’s in the pipeline for the next few weekends:
Saturday Knitting Skills with Katie: Join Katie Saturdays this winter as she shares her impressive knitting skills. Expand your knitting knowledge and branch out with new techniques. Classes run Saturday afternoons, 3-5pm. $20, not including materials.
January 12: Intro to Socks
January 19:Fair Isle/Color Knitting
January 26:Fixing Mistakes
February 2:Intro to Socks
February 9: Cables/Charts
February 16: Lace/Charts
We’re also making some changes to our sewing classes. Through the year we have heard a number of times that our sessions just aren’t long enough. To alleviate this we are making our revised Get To Know Your Sewing Machine class a pre-requisite for all Intro to Sewing classes (if you are currently registered for a class, you are “grandfathered in” but I really recommend you still consider taking it!). You don’t have to also take a sewing class at Stitch House – this is a great workshop on it’s own. Join us for Get To Know Your SEWING MACHINE —Do you own a sewing machine and have a great fear of getting started or trying more than a straight stitch? Bring your sewing machine, manual (if you can find it!), thread, and some scrap fabric for practicing. If you don’t own a machine, come get to know our machines. This workshop also includes taking your measurements, picking appropriate patterns and how to select fabrics and notions. This class costs $20. Pick one of the following sessions offered: Saturday January 26, February 2 or March 2, 10am – 12 noon. OR Wednesday, January 30, February 13 or March 13 from 6-8pm.
If you are ready to sew, we have a number of classes starting this week and over the next few weeks for you. You can sew with me and make an Amy Butler Bag, Schoolhouse Tunic, Anna Top or Colette Ginger Skirt. You can select your own project and come in for the next 3 Thursdays and learn to sew with a fabulous Stitch House instructor. Or, sign-up for two Saturdays and spend some serious time in our Sew-Intensive Class. The choice is your’s! Here’s what’s coming up:

The first is at 10am and the second at 12noon. Call or email us if you would like to sign up for that class.
Over the last two years we’ve been collecting your birthday information, holding on to it in order to do something special when your day comes around. Well, I had so much fun at my birthday last month (12-12-12) I decided, there is nothing more exciting than celebrating with cake and good company more often. So, every month this year, I invite you to enjoy some of your special day with us. If your birthday is in January please come to our Janaury Birthday Celebrations on Friday, Janaury 25 from 6-9pm. Everyone is invited – but our birthday girls and boys will be honored with a small Stitch House gift and the first slices of cake! Please RSVP if you are coming!
That same evening we’ll be welcoming singer Melanie Gall
. Melanie is a New York-based singer and the host of the Savvy Girls Podcast, a popular knitting podcast. She recently recorded a CD of ‘lost’, historic WWI-era knitting songs. These songs were actually sung for/by knitters during the First World War, and are a charming and accurate historic record of what it was like to be a knitter, almost 100 years ago. The CD was featured on knitty.com
, as well as several knitting blogs and podcasts. Melanie will visit Stitch House
on January 25 which will include a CD signing, an intimate performance of her songs and good conversation about her life and experiences. As soon as I heard her, I knew we had to have her make an appearance at Stitch House. You will feel the same once you listen to a sample of her music here
Here’s to 2013 and a good year for all of us!
