Clearance Returns, GTK Plus!, Kids’ Club, Sunday Workshops, Quilt Club‏

Another busy week underway here at Stitch House! With the dusting of snow came a re-energized, post holiday, ready for the second leg of winter knitters and sewers, and we are ready for you! I hope you can handle all we have going on and want to join us for some of the fun! And, now that the tree is down we’re returning the clearance table upstairs and adding a few new items. You will Malabrigo Lace, CEY Montera, Trendsetter Serpentine, Prism Felt-Me and more on clearance while they last.
You may have heard how awesome our sewing classes are. If you haven’t it is time to check them out. If you have considered taking one with us, this is the time to sign up! But we have a very new, helpful pre-requisite for you and it is a good one! All our new sewers are invited to take, as a pre-requisite to any of our Intro to Sew or Sew Intensive classes, our revamped Get To Know Your Sewing Machine PLUSGTK PLUS is a 2 hour workshop to familiarize yourself with either your personal sewing machine, or ours. We’ll introduce you to the machine, including turning it on, threading it, learning the basic stitches and functions, and caring for it. We also will show you how to select appropriate new-sewer patterns, read them and measure yourself for a good fit. You will leave this session feeling good about your beginner skills, a handy packet of information to use at home and a starter project for your first sewing class with us. Even if you aren’t taking a sewing class with us, this is a great opportunity to learn a few basics. Bring your sewing machine, manual (if you can find it!), thread, and some scrap fabric for practicing. If you don’t own a machine, come get to know our machines. This workshop also includes taking your measurements, picking appropriate patterns and how to select fabrics and notions. Class cost: $20. Pick one of the following sessions offered: Saturday January 26, February 2 or March 2, 10am – 12 noon. OR Wednesday, January 30, February 13 or March 13 from 6-8pm.

Over the last two years we’ve been collecting your birthday information, holding on to it in order to do something special when your day comes around. Well, I had so much fun at my birthday last month (12-12-12) I decided, there is nothing more exciting than celebrating with cake and good company more often. So, every month this year, I invite you to enjoy some of your special day with us. If your birthday is in January please come to our January Birthday Celebration on Friday, January 25 from 6-9pm. Everyone is invited – but our birthday girls and boys will be honored with a small Stitch House gift and the first slices of cake! Please RSVP if you are coming!
That same evening we’ll be welcoming singer Melanie Gall. Melanie is a New York-based singer and the host of the Savvy Girls Podcast, a popular knitting podcast.  She recently recorded a CD of ‘lost’, historic WWI-era knitting songs.  These songs were actually sung for/by knitters during the First World War, and are a charming and accurate historic record of what it was like to be a knitter, almost 100 years ago.  The CD was featured on knitty.com, as well as several knitting blogs and podcasts. Melanie will visit Stitch House on January 25 which will include a CD signing, an intimate performance of her songs and good conversation about her life and experiences. As soon as I heard her, I knew we had to have her make an appearance at Stitch House. You will feel the same once you listen to a sample of her music here.
We have a wonderful group of quilters particpating in our FREE Stitch House Quilt Club. We’re in the process of wrapping up the Trip Around the World Quilt (meeting tomorrow night, Friday from 7-9pm). We now have a new project for Winter 2013! Join the Stitch House Quilt Club and make Red Pepper’s Zig Zag Quilt. Starting next week you are invited to begin this quilt with us! The Stitch House Quilt Club is designed for new, beginner and advanced sewers looking for good company, conversation and guidance to complete a stunning quilt. Workshop times are scheduled a few weeks at a time and any club members can continue meeting with the group until they have completed their Quilt. This is a casual workshop and members receive assistance while at Stitch House, but are expected to be fearless of making “mistakes”. My philosophy is your sewing should be as perfect as you want it, but you should enjoy your workmanship. This is meant to not be stressful. I attempt to create an atmosphere of relaxation and fun. There is no grade for your finished project. If this all sounds good to you, check out our attached flyer and come in next week to get started.
February marks the start of Jeanne’s “Part II” Crochet workshops. Now that there is a growing group of you ready for the next step in crochet, Jeanne invites you to join her Crochet Workshops the first two Sundays in February. On Sundays, February 3 and February 10 from 3-5pm. she’ll be working with you to make the One Row Lace Cowl. This class is not for those wanting to learn to crochet; Jeanne has designed this for those who have completed an Intro to Crochet class and know the basics! Come for one or both weeks: $20 per session.
We have so much happening here but if you don’t see something you like, either in classes or product, let me know. I want to provide you with the best experience here at Stitch House!
I hope to see you soon!

    • Hi Cathy-
Unfortunately I JUST got word while checking my email this morning that Melanie had a change in her practice schedule in NYC and won’t be able to attend at all! I am bummed for sure, but we’ll get her in some time soon!
