I hope you enjoyed the Clearance on Clearance Sale – it served its purpose and the sale area has been practically emptied. You stepped up for sure! The remaining clearance items will be donated to a local knitting for charity group. Now we’ve made more room for some great new fibers. You’ll have to come in and see for yourself!
Perhaps you’ll be in for our Blood Drive this Saturday. Join me in donating blood for Boston Children’s Hospital. They’ll have the bloodmobile parked out front all day. If you have some blood to spare (most of us do!) jump on board and get giving! You can call the shop to sign up 617-265-8013 or log on and use code “STITCH” to become a donor.
Tonight (Wednesday), join Kathleen for some great project-based knitting using CEY Accents booklet for motivation – we’re suggesting you start with this awesome Zig Zag Tam in Liberty Wool, perfect for new knitters looking for a next project, or for those already starting on their holiday and Fall knitting.
Or you might check out Libby’s Ankle Socks class Sunday, join us for the renewed Sew 101 sessions the week after, or help to welcome guest instructor Cal Patch for some serious sewing time in October. For any of these or more, call the shop and register!
More classes are listed on our website if you see nothing here.
Until I see you again!

October 4 & 5
Stitch House Urban SEW Weekend with Cal Patch!
Saturday October 4, 10am-3pm. $125.
(Sign up for both Saturday and Sunday sessions for $225)
People are often surprised to learn they can make their own leggings, but guess what? YOU CAN! And you don’t even need a serger to sew with knits. Guest sewing instructor Cal Patch will show you how to draft a pattern for this wardrobe essential, based on your own measurements. Then we’ll stitch up a first draft fit sample, adjust our patterns if necessary, and proceed to make a pair of real-live leggings. You’ll never buy them off the rack again! Please have at least advanced-beginner sewing skills, with a few simple projects under your belt. Class includes pattern and fabric.
Sunday October 5, 10am-3pm. $125.
(Sign up for both Saturday and Sunday sessions for $225)
Here’s your chance to make your own custom dress pattern with guest instructor Cal Patch! In this one-day class, you will learn how to take your measurements and use them to draft a pattern for a simple sleeveless shift dress. Then we’ll make “muslins” (fit samples) from our patterns, and have a group fitting session in which everyone will benefit from seeing various fit issues and how to correct them. Based on this, you’ll make corrections to your pattern, and we will discuss fabric and styling options and construction techniques, so that at the end of class you are armed with all you need to embark on your finished dress project! Please have (at least) beginner-level sewing skills. All materials are included.
Note: only a pattern and muslin will be made in this class, not a finished dress.
Michelle Dobson has only been knitting since January of 2014. After moving to Quincy from Arkansas, she signed up for a the Knit 101 class here at Stitch House and jumped in with both feet. She loves learning new skills; she has tried color work, cables, and lace. Though she has enjoyed all of these techniques, socks have been her most consistent project choice – she loves their portability. She is looking forward to her next knitting challenge and busily filling her apartment with gorgeous yarn!

Slovakian Folk Hat Workshop with Lisa McFetridge
Sundays, September 28 & October 5 from 4-6pm
Lisa McFetridge is back for another great workshop!
Lisa designed this hat as a tribute to the knit wear worn by the 2014 Slovakian Winter Olympic Team at the opening ceremonies in Sochi. Some digging revealed that the motifs on their hats were taken from the homes in a small Slovakian village, Čičmany,. She charted the designs from photos found on-line and turned them into this slouchy hat with a stuffed TopKnot. In two sizes Small/Medium & Medium /Large and worked in worsted weight wool, it works up quickly and is striking in black and white. Make this hat your own by using your own favorite colors.
Sunday September 28 & October 5, 4-6pm. $60 not including materials.
