Calling All Men! Chunky Mittens! Thanksgiving Thanks!

Tomorrow is it – when all the Stitch House Men are welcome to have the shop all to themselves! Join other crafty men at our FIRST Men Knit Night on Saturday, November 17 from 5-8pm. We’re rolling out the food, beverages and fun for you! Join us if you can… RSVP and get a gift bag filled with some of our favorite goodies!
Then Sunday, November 18, from 3-5pm, all of you are welcome to come and knit mittens with Claire. Men and women alike are invited to this one-afternoon workshop on Chunky Mittens. For those of you who know how to knit and purl, it’s time to move on to your first mitten (or pair of mittens!).  Using chunky yarn, this basic adult mitten will involve knitting and purling on double pointed needles, picking up stitches, decreases and binding off.  Suggested yarns include: Cascade 128, Rowan Cocoon, Queensland Kathmandu Chunky (sample mitten on display).  This workshop costs $20 and does not include materials. You will need approx. 120 yards chunky yarn, US size 10 or 10.5 double pointed needles, Locking stitch markers or scrap yarn for holding thumb stitches and a tapestry or yarn needle. Bring some from your stash or buy them at the Stitch House. Please email us or call 617.265.8013 to reserve your seat for this class.
Now that Thanksgiving is here (sorry for those of you who’s stomachs turned because you aren’t ready and thought it was 2 weeks away!) we are right in the holiday season and looking forward to all the festivities we get to enjoy because of it.  One of my favorite celebrations at the Stitch House is ourAnnual Pot Luck Dinner on the Friday evening after Thanksgiving. You are invited to join usFriday, November 23rd at 6pm (until whenever you guys decide to go home), we want you to bring some leftovers to share or a whole new pie to enjoy – your choice! We’ll have fun, music, festivities, wine, and very good company. All we’re missing is you!
Saturday, November 24 is our neighborhood’s Tree Lighting at Blessed Mother Teresa Church. Following the lighting we invite all families to the shop for some crafting fun and community good times. When I have the lighting time confirmed I will let you know!
Then comes December. Man, how this year has flown by… This December we’re introducing a new sewing class for those of you who are interested in more than the basics. We’re offering Sewing 102: Beyond the Basics for those students with basic sewing experience who would like to improve their skills.  Learn to sew a basic dress, blouse or shirt. Depending on the project you choose, some of the instruction will include french seams, zippers, waistbands, top-stitching, buttonholes, hems, pockets, linings, cuffs, collar, darts and pattern reading. For those of you with a little sewing knowledge who want to take the next step–this is the class for you! This class runs 2 Saturdays, December 1 and 8from 10:30-2:30 and costs $75. A light lunch is included, but materials are not. Please email or call 617.265.8013 to register for this class.
As for everything else… come in and check it out! I hope you have a nice weekend and enjoy the sunshine days and crisp night. Winter is just around the corner, and then there’s Christmas lurking. Santa’s upcoming visit offers me a bit of leverage with the boys and bedtime the last few weeks!
Until I see you again!
Annissa
